Upasana Taku

Upasana Taku gave up her cushy career in the US after graduating from Stanford University and came back to India in 2008 to solve a fundamental problem at the grassroots level. After dabbling in micro finance, she identified a big problem in the space of enabling payments and financial inclusion. She found a partner in crime in Bipin Preet Singh, husband and also co-founder at MobiKwik. Started in 2009, this start-up has gone on to become one of the leading mobile wallet companies in the country. MobiKwik today has 32 million users and 100,000 users on its platforms, doing close to 5 lakh transactions every day that go up to a million every month. Taku, who attributes her success to her perseverance and ability to hustle, believes that 150 million consumers will be using MobiKwik in the next two years. She is definitely not resting easy with an aim of having a GMV of $1 billion in 2017 and hopes to turn profitable by 2018.
